| Title | #002 Chas Sooysmith House, Greens Farms |
| Subject | Greens Farms, Connecticut |
| Description | Note found with glass plate negative: "Charles Sooysmith house, Greens Farms. Taken May 30, 1892. Now owned by F T Bedford." Southport Chronicle of 14 June 1892 attributed photo to Edward Hall. "Edward T Hall, our genial photographer on Center St, has taken elegant pictures of Charles Sooysmith's palatial new residence at Phipps' Beach." Stamped on back of original print, however, was "Eugene E Hall, Photographer, Southport Conn." Eugene may have developed the picture or arranged for its sale. There are three views of the house; this one was taken from the beachfront looking west. The house was situated at Frost Point, Greens Farms, approximately on the site of present 60 Beachside Ave. The E T Bedford mansion was just to the east of the Sooysmith/F T Bedford house. (Ffld Hist Society has a panoramic photo which shows both buildings.) Both buildings have been torn down. See photos #1, 3-5. This house was acquired in 1906 by Fred T Bedford, son of E T Bedford, and was given the name "Banrock." See photos 451-454. |
