#012 Methodist Church, Center St & Pequot Ave
#012 Methodist Church, Center St & Pequot Ave
Title#012 Methodist Church, Center St & Pequot Ave
SubjectSouthport, Connecticut
DescriptionPhotographer: Edward, Clinton or Eugene Hall. Note found with glass plate negative: "The Methodist Church in Southport. It was the last one built and was on the corner of Pequot Ave & Center St. 2 plates." The house partly visible in the left background is the parsonage, fronting on Center st. This house (built for Godfrey) had stood on a site in front of the church building on Pequot Ave. It was moved when the church was built in 1898-99. The church closed in 1929 and was torn down in the 1930's. See also commentary with photo #14. See photos 414 & 414A. Iinformation fom the Misses O'Dwyer of Southport, 4/15/1995: Although the house had a Center St address, the front of the house faced Pequot Ave. Front door can be seen to extreme right behind porch trim. The house was apparently moved straight back, not turned around. The house was for many years painted yellow. The Samuel S Jennings family lived here in the 1920's and 1930's.
