DescriptionPhotographer: Edward, Clinton or Eugene Hall. Note found with glass plate negative: "The Hammond House, Greens Farms. 2 plates." See photo #183, which is mislabelled as "Res. of Jas Dunne, Sr." The Dunne house is shown in photo #184, a house very similar to this one. The Dunne and Hammond houses stood near each other. Chronicle of 23 Apr 1896 refers to the new house of Alderman Dunne and the "elegant mansion which Dr Hammond is building close by." Chronicle 24 Feb 1896: "The new house of Dr. Hammond on the shore road is assuming pleasing proportions." Chronicle 27 Apr 1896: "Parties from Stamford are drilling an artesian well for Dr Hammond at the latter's new home." The house was built fronting on the shore on Beachside Ave by Dr Graeme Hammond of NY. It was sold in 1938 to Fred H Bedford Jr. The house was destroyed by fire.
