| Title | #008 House, Westway Rd, Westport |
| Subject | Greens Farms, Connecticut |
| Description | Photographer: Edward, Clinton or Eugene Hall. Note found with glass plate negative: "The E Livingston Wells coachman's house now made into Mrs Allan Kerr's house on Westway Rd, Sthport [Westport]. [On same sheet in different handwriting] "J H Jennings House." This house is believed to be #14 Westway Rd., Westport--much altered over the years. The house was part of Burr Jennings property, on which the main house was #358 Greens Farms Rd. It was at #358 that the Rev E Livingston Wells, rector of Southport Trinity church lived. The small building in the photo could easily have been his coachman's residence. However, positive proof is lacking. The name of the Wells' coachman is not known. #14 Westway Rd was purchased by Mrs Allan Kerr in 1931. "...the Wells place...in 1889 John H Jennings was the owner.... In 1921 it was sold to the Minton's.... A small house further east [the house shown above] was used by J H Jennings as a house for his workmen. This was remodelled by Mrs Minton and sold to Mrs Kerr in 1931." (Wspt Hist Soc, mss of Judge Adams) |
